Hello, all:
I understand the HBO show Succession ended last night. It’s funny how pop culture works now, isn’t it? I have a vague awareness of what it’s about: there’s a family, one guy’s dying, someone’s got to inherit the stuff, and there’s a power struggle. I believe there’s a corporation involved, and apparently now politics is involved. People may have actually died by now. (I think I know one person, but I am trying to avoid spoilers). I don’t know who ended up with the inheritance, if anyone. The butler, maybe?
I don’t have the passage to hand, but I am reminded of a line from a Catholic humorist, Teresa Bloomingdale, where she discusses the fragmentation of popular culture. Way, way back, when TVs only had a few channels (imagine!), if one show was on, you watched that show. Then there was an explosion of channels, and with it, the more opportunities and thus the chance to miss things. The way she put it was on the show Dallas, when everyone was asking “Who shot J.R.?”, she asked, “Who’s J.R.?” (I don’t know myself, honestly. Is J.R. like BJ in M*A*S*H, or does J.R. stand for something? One wonders).
Anyway, now, of course, we have streaming and all that. There’s so much out there it’s honestly hard to keep up. I still haven’t seen the Star Trek show about Picard yet, although I want to, but I did catch Rings of Power. Similarly, I have seen The Mandalorian, but I haven’t seen any of the animated Clone Wars series. So it goes.
Writing Update
The Evinrude and Eulalie sequel is at 8336 words; meanwhile, I released episode 5 of The Adventures of Tabitha, Angel of Death and episode 15 of The Mad Scientist, the Superhero and the Duck, Vol. 2: The Wrath of Thrud! on Kindle Vella. You can find those stories on my Amazon author page.
Closing Time
I watched Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania the other day on DisneyPlus. The M.O.D.O.K. element didn’t come off for me, but I will say, the awesomeness of the ant army scene more than made up for it. You’ll know what I mean when you see it, trust me. In the meantime, here’s an unrelated video of the Danish National Orchestra doing The Hanging Tree song from The Hunger Games movies. I got chills just watching it.
Until next time,
Michael
