Well, that was a weekend.
I don’t want to write about politics on here, and I’d still rather not, but all the same I am reminded of a moment from one of my favorite books, Rilla of Ingleside, the final book in the Anne of Green Gables series. A grown-up Anne, now married to Gilbert Blythe, is chatting with her friend Miss Cornelia and her cook/housekeeper/practically family member Susan Baker. They’ve just read in the paper that some Archduke has been shot over in the Balkans.
"What does it matter to us?" asked Miss Cornelia, unaware of the hideous answer to her question which destiny was even then preparing.
I don’t like anywhere this is going. And to borrow another famous line, I have a bad feeling about this. But then again, maybe it’ll turn out all right. One hopes, anyway.
Right, moving on:
Writing Update
As you may have noticed, I am slightly delayed in my usual weekend offerings; I will endeavor to get the next 2.17 Seconds into Never story out either today or tomorrow at the latest. I have, however, got the Archive up to date. Thoughts, anyone? Could it be made easier to read? Better organized, maybe? Color-coded? Encrypted behind a secret code keyed to the rotations of the moon intertwined with the precise factor of twelve to the power of nineteen point seven? (…I don’t think I can do that).
Closing Time
Also, because I’m me:
I am cautiously hopeful. That they acknowledged Harrison Ford swapping in for the late William Hurt is good; it feels like the way they handled replacing Terence Howard with Don Cheadle in Iron Man 2. I like that they have Giancarlo Esposito in there. I like the Red Hulk reveal at the end, the ominous ticking bit, all of it.
That said, I’m growing used to disappointment. Let’s face it, after Endgame the MCU hasn’t really been what it was. What If? and Ms. Marvel I liked, but The Marvels and The Eternals were iffy at best, and the less said about Secret Invasion, the better. We need a good MCU movie again. Let’s hope this is it.
Until next time,
Michael
