Hello, all:
When I was in kindergarten (this was before I was homeschooled), I would go over to a friend’s house before we caught the bus, and we’d watch Power Rangers. His name was Sloan, if I remember right. I don’t remember the last name. Anyway, I remember really liking that show; I think it’s what kindled my interest in the superhero field generally. Then of course after that growing up I could get Batman: the Animated Series and Justice League from the library or Blockbuster (this was when I was homeschooled, and we didn’t have a TV), and also X-Men Evolution, and then Netflix came and I could get all the shows, and, well, so it went.
On a mildly different note, I’ve always had a fondness for X-Men Evolution. I know the animated series was classic, and I watched it through once it hit DisneyPlus and I agree it had its moments (not to mention one of the best themes short of BTAS and Gargoyles). Even so, you have to love Evolution. Among other things, it rates high on my scale of judging the awesomeness of X-Men productions, aka, Magneto Lifting Things.
For example, in the movie X-Men First Class, Magneto lifts a submarine. Cool! In X-Men: Days of Future Past, Magneto lifts a baseball stadium. Also cool! X-Men: the Last Stand had issues, but then again, Magneto lifts the Golden Gate Bridge. Cool! X-Men: Dark Phoenix: Magneto lifts…a train, I think? Eh. Not so cool.
Anyway, in one episode of Evolution when Magneto is fighting Apocalypse (yeah, that happened) he lifted a bunch of tanks and three satellites! Cool! (It didn’t work, but still, cool. Also, he did this to the accompaniment of really, really cool music. Have a listen, particularly at 7:07 on.
Cool, no?
Writing Update
Since the last Weekly Muse I’ve reorganized the ‘Stack a bit; among other things, I’ve added a You are Here page, a guide, as it were; you can find that below.
Welcome to My World: A Guide to Michael's Musings
In other writing news, the Evinrude and Eulalie sequel is at 12,380 words; the Gaseous Girl and the Winds of Time serial continues on the ‘Stack, as does vol. 2 of The Malevolent Med-Student, the Superhero, and the Duck on Kindle Vella. I confess I’ve fallen behind a bit on the Kindle Vella serial about Tabitha the Death Angel, but I shall try to pick up this week.
Closing Time
Speaking of Magneto, as much as I do like the character in X-Men Evolution, his theme in X-Men: First Class really was the best. Enjoy below!
Until next time,
Michael
