Hello, all:
I’m going to take this moment to deliver some Quality Writing Advice(tm). I don’t usually do this sort of thing because, primarily, there are so many other better writers who can help better than I can. S.E. Reid springs to mind, as does Simon K Jones, just for a start. But one suggestion that I heard long ago has always stuck with me, and so I pass it on to you now: if, as I did last night, you get an idea for a story just as you are drifting off to sleep. for heaven’s sake wake yourself back up and write it down. Write it down right then and there, as much as you can remember, because if you don’t and you try to recall it in the morning, it won’t be nearly as good.
You’re probably thinking to yourself, oh no, how sad, Michael got an idea for the Great American Novel and lost it, how could he have done such a thing, oh no, right? Well, fortunately, I actually did write the idea down. Technically, I typed it into the Reminder widget on my phone, but, all the same, the Idea was preserved. That idea is this:
T.I.F.F. on a spaceship
How does she get there?
Where’s S.S.M.?
How does she get home?
Now you’re probably wondering what all that means. That, as the saying goes, is for me to know and for you, loyal readers, to find out. I will give you a hint, though: it will take place in the Edison City universe, though not necessarily at the same time.
[I will be honest, I didn’t plan this; I had an eventual plan on revisiting the fate of a character last seen in an earlier serial and now with this idea I find I can do that as well, which is really quite tidy all things considered so points to my subconscious, I suppose. Well done you.]
Writing Update
So, yes, the Edison City ‘verse is going to space. What fun! Meanwhile, here’s the page for the current serial below, which has definitely reached a Turning Point: I will try to plan out the rest of it so as to plan the Big Space Story soon. Maybe by March, I don’t know.
Closing Time
You know what’s the best time to go to the dentist?
Tooth-hurty!
Ba-dum-psh.
Until next time,
Michael
