Tasha’s eyes flicked across the parking lot. She had three exploding soccer balls left. Fifteen robots between her and the building. Seven minutes before the Malevolent Med-Student’s padamantium bomb inside went off, vaporizing downtown Edison City. Couldn’t let that happen. The Autumn Flower Festival was starting that evening and everyone was looking forward to it. Vaporization would just kill the mood.
She was just working out her approach when her phone buzzed. Reminder text. The Captain had that top-secret meet in Switzerland. She’d have to pick up the kids.
Tasha checked her watch. Thirty minutes till school let out. She fired off one soccer ball at a robot that was getting much too close as she mentally ran through her calendar. Tuesday was cornet practice for Sauna. Wednesday was the tutoring session with the Scarlet Shapeshifter. Thursday was- that was today. Today wasn’t anything. She’d have to move.
Tasha fired off her last two soccer balls and made a break through the resulting chaos towards the building. The Academy should’ve provided more guidance on how to juggle all this. It’d been all telepathy and zombies when she’d gone through, not so much about music practice and school days.
Tasha raced to the bomb and began cutting wires. Her phone buzzed again. Another text. This one was from Sauna. Something about a new bus tracking app. That reminded her of the bomb-defuser app that Shorter Circuit had clued her into. She fired that up and sliced through the rest of the bomb in a twinkling. As the timer died down, Super Soccer Mom took a long breath. Then she made a note on her phone about the bus app. “Amazing what they can do these days,” she said to no one in particular. The Academy hadn’t had bus apps either.
