A Schedule and a Writing Update
I’ve been thinking about becoming more organized in my writing of late, and this is as good a chance as any. So, here we go.
Writing Updates
I will post one at the beginning of the week, Mondays usually, with an excerpt of my current work in progress. For example, I have just finished the first draft of my pirate novel, Bonnieditch Crumpleshnort and the Diamond of Rumentana, and I have the next volume in the Constance Series, Who Killed Ron Raven, in my editing pile. Below, for your delight and enjoyment, I present a small excerpt of WKRR.
“This is not a Doctor Who episode,” Winifred said coolly. “Time doesn’t work like all that.”
The Green Moth looked confused. “A doctor what?”
“No, who,” Winifred said.
“I don't know who; that's why I asked you.”
Winifred sighed. “Of course, you wouldn’t know about that; it was before the apocalypse.”
“Know about what?”
“Not what, who- oh, never mind.” Winifred decided this conversation was getting out of hand and determined to move things along.
Who’s the Green Moth? What’s Winifred talking about? What’s time got to do with it? You’ll find out when WKRR is live on Amazon, hopefully later this year! And if you want to hit up my other works in preparation, here’s my author page. Y’know, just in case.
Kindle Vella
About my two ongoing serials, I plan on releasing one new story each Tuesday and Wednesday: Tuesday for The Return of the Space Otter, Wednesday for The Malevolent Med-Student, Vol. 2: The Wrath of Thrud! I expect The Wrath of Thrud! to go through the end of the year, as the spirit moves me; The Return of the Space Otter will likely end before that, in which case I will either not write on Tuesdays or replace it with another Kindle Vella serial. I should note, these will not be posted on Substack; these will be exclusive to Kindle Vella. I just mention them here for scheduling purposes.
Miscellany
I still plan to write posts on other matters: disaster movies, Marvel things, why Columbo is just the best ever, maybe why Deep Impact is better than Armageddon if I haven’t tackled that yet, etc. These will post on Thursdays and afterwards, at varying times, pretty much whenever the inspiration hits me.
Paywalls
I suppose I should start thinking about that. I will consider it and let you know.
Closing Time
I recently finished Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (Yes, I know it ended in 2020. I didn’t get to it until recently. For me, personally, the series finale was just perfect. One of the best things I’ve seen. Right up there with the finales for M*A*S*H and Frasier. Just perfect.
One of the things I loved about AoS, even with all the wacky and weird elements like aliens and vampire bats and Kree hunters and time-travel robots and whatnot, it always had the human element, the heart of it all. At the end of season 5, Phil Coulson and Jemma Simmons are talking about a loss the team suffers (I won’t spoil it), and they have the following exchange:
Coulson: You don't have to forget. But you have to move on.
Simmons: No. With respect, sir, you're wrong. We don't move on. We hold that place in our heart, we close it off, we lock the door, we visit from time to time, but we don't move on. Even after we say goodbye.
For so many reasons, some very personal, that really hit me. And that is why I loved that show.
Also it had fantastic music. Like Daisy’s Theme, covered in the video below. I mean, fantastic.
‘Till next time,
Michael
