Hello, all:
I understand that the Emmys were last night; to be honest my faith in them, to the extent that it ever existed, was badly shaken on learning that Better Call Saul never won. At all. Not even once. I mean, you guys: Rhea Seehorn should’ve won something for playing Kim Wexler, not to mention everyone else: the “Chicanery” monologue that Michael McKean does as Chuck McGill? Just brilliant.
I looked over the list of the shows that won awards last night, and I might see some of them at some point. The Bear sounds interesting (is there an actual bear at any point?). I want to read the books before I see the shows re: Slow Horses and the 3 Body Problem. Shogun sounds interesting too.
But right now I’m working on X-Men so I can watch X-Men ‘97 plus Gotham and MacGyver (the original) plus Columbo (again) plus Doctor Who plus Babylon Five plus Rings of Power and at some point I need to rewatch WandaVision to prepare for Agatha All Along and also I’ve been meaning to get through the Marvel Netflix shows since I hear they’re doing Daredevil again and, well, you see my problem.
Writing Update
I am still working on a collection of Edison City stories; currently I am editing the Quarks of the Heart serial. I expect the collection will include Quarks, the Captain Happily Married one with Professor Irreconcilable Differences, and 2.17 Seconds Into Never, plus maybe the serial I’m working on at present: And When Two Villains Woo. We’re up to five episodes now in that one! Fun!
Closing Time
Here’s an interesting thought: remember the opening words of Beauty and the Beast? “Once upon a time, in a faraway land, a young prince lived in a shining castle, right?”
Now, cast your minds forward to Lumiere’s wonderful song, “Be Our Guest”. particularly the verse where he introduces the castle dishes:
They can sing, they can dance, after all miss this is France,
And a dinner here is never second best!
Not so far away then, maybe? Of course, once you learn a bit of history, you start to wonder: what happened to Belle and the Prince come the Revolution? Did they escape to England, or did they face La Guillotine, the National Razor which shaved close, as Dickens put it?
I wonder these things, you know.
Until next time,
Michael
Better Call Saul never won an Emmy? Not even Rhea Seehorn? How is this possible? It defies all laws of Emmy physics.
Howard Ashman probably was looking for a rhyme for "chance" or "trance" and the country fit it. In reality, it's set in the kingdom of Disney Land...
