Hello, all:
I may have mentioned this before, but I live in southern Indiana, specifically the bit that’s across the river from Louisville, Kentucky, and we’re gearing up towards some pretty big doings. Today, specifically, is an event we call THUNDER OVER LOUISVILLE.
There’s a big air show, lots of fighter jets and other aircraft, and drones; they’ve got a drone bit now. Very impressive. The whole thing draws 600,000 plus people on both sides of the Ohio River each year, which is usually why I haven’t gone in person for a while.
As a kid I went with my family, of course, and we saw the planes fly overhead and of course the fireworks: they had a really nice effect where they contrive to make it look like a firework waterfall is flowing off one of the bridges. It was an all-day thing; we sat out on blankets and lawn chairs, had snacks, the whole bit. Then of course after the fireworks show ends at 10, you have to fight through the rest of the 600,000 other people to get home, so traffic’s a bear.
After a while when I got old enough to go to college and such, I started staying home and having movie marathons instead of going to Thunder. Some were more successful than others. Star Wars: solid choice. The year I went through all of te original Planet of the Apes movies….not so much. I may have been too young to appreciate them, you know? At any rate, they actually shut the thing down one year during the pandemic, for obvious reasons, but now it’s back on again. And two weeks afterwards is the 150th Kentucky Derby, about which more later. (If you’re thinking of what horse to bet on, I wouldn’t know: I’ve only bet maybe one time, when I was at Churchill Downs in person at a law school celebration event. I had six bucks, bet that, and lost it. So it goes.)
Writing Update
I’ve begun a new superhero serial, 2.17 Seconds to Never, featuring Meg Atomic and a new character! Said new character will likely introduced in tomorrow’s episode, which reminds me: I really need to outline this now. The opening episode is out though, and you can find that here:
Closing Time
Today is a palindrome, evidently: 4/20/2024. I for one think that’s neat. You know what else is neat? The sexithiophene molecule, which is an oligomer composed of six thiophene residues. Why do I mention this, you ask?
…
I’m bringing sexi back.

Anyhow.
Until next time,

600'000 people - that boggles my mind! I live in Western Australia, and if we discount the state capital, Perth, with 2.2mil, (which we often do), there's like 560'000 people living rurally in the whole state of WA. So, I'm trying to wrap my head around the fact that you have 600'000 people turn up for one event! Thats like 20 times the population of my city!!! And I whinge on New Year's Day when a couple of thousand people go down to the harbour to watch the fireworks. ...600'000 people!!!! Star Wars movie marathon seems like a wise alternative!
